that this would only be in keeping with the Colony's desire to

subscribe to the Imperial War effort, and would be a most

valuable contribution. It is also considered that it would

give a most welcome opportunity to members of the Hong Kong

Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve to take their part in active

service.

H.M.S. "CORNFLOWER" has continued to act as depot

ship to the Force, but her condition alone is sufficient to

make the provision of other accommodation an urgent necessity,

besides being inadequate in size. Arrangements are in hand to

replace H.M.S. "CORNFLOWER" by the River Steamer "TAI HING", which will give more adequate accommodation, but it is desired

to emphasise that this change can only be in the nature of a

temporary expedient and that the need for a shore Headquarters

is as pressing as ever.

I have the honour to be,

Your Excellency's obedient servant,

(Sgd.) A.M. PETERS.

COMMODORE.
